Of course, we all know there’s no substitute for a good singing coach when it comes to improving your vocals, but there are some amazing apps out there that can help to bridge the gap between lessons. If you are a singer, or aspiring to be one, then these are the apps you need on your phone now!

Warm Me Up!

This simple app is easy to use and a fantastic option for helping you warm up your voice before you practice singing at home. Choose from one of the routines they’ve put together for you or work your way through the vocal exercises on the app. It’s been created by professional singers, so you know all these warm-ups have been tried and tested. It costs £5.99 on iOS and is a great investment into your singing career.

Vocalizer

This fantastic app offers vocal exercises like most other apps, but this also comes with a range detector, which is a great way to learn more about your voice. Once you know where your voice stands in a range, you can work out where you can grow, adapt songs to suit your voice and sing with more confidence. Of course, the exercises are very useful too, starting from short range and expanding to wider range for best results.

Erol’s Singing Studio

Like Vocalizer, this app helps you find your range, but it does this in a slightly different way. Vocaliser will ask you to sing your lowest comfortable note and then your highest comfortable note and dictate that as your range. Range Finder starts with your normal speaking voice and then expands from there, which we think is a slightly better way of doing it.

Swiftscales

This app offers so much more than you might realise at first. Full of breathing exercises and singing tips, it puts all its advice into a useful context, so you know exactly why you’re doing what you’re doing. It’s advice about singing pitches is very useful but it might take you a little while to find what you’re looking for. This is a free app with upgrade options.

Learn To Sing – Perfect Pitch

If you’re looking for perfection in your voice from the very first note, this could be the app for you. Getting your score to 100% is going to frustrate and motivate you in equal measure. As well as warm-ups and singing tips, there’s a fun karaoke feature and the app keeps track of your practice sessions, so you know whether or not you’ve remembered to sing every day.

VocalEase 4 U

The ideal app for practice on the go. But, if you’ve no need to jump in the car, it still makes for a very easy-to-use platform where you sing along with the teacher and learn a lot about the make-up of your voice. Like the others, there’s warm-ups and singing exercises, but there’s also something called a Pitch Pipe, which will help you find that tone you’re looking for.

7-Minute Vocal Warm Up

You’ve got seven minutes to spare before your singing session haven’t you? This app includes some great warm-up exercises to ensure your voice is in tip-top shape for any performance, and theres even cool-down exercises to help recovery after an intense session. It is only 99p on iOS, making it a great choice for someone looking for quick, cheap help.

Simply Sing: Learn to Sing

This app rates pretty highly on the App Store, and it’s easy to see why! You can personalise the songs to fit your range, and it tracks your voice to make sure you’re in tune with the music. You should note that this is an app to use alongside professional lessons, as there’s no theory or teaching involved, but it is a great accompaniment and lots of fun.

Yokee Karaoke

This app does what it says on the tin – it’s a karaoke programme that won’t teach you much about singing. The good thing about it, is that it records you singing, so if you know what to look for, you can assess your performance. Best used alongside proper teaching, but it is a fun addition to your phone.

Tone – Learn Perfect Pitch

Train your ear and your voice at the same time with this easy-to-use app. It includes interval training and gamifies the process, making it fun. One huge drawback is the price – if you don’t want to pay, make sure to cancel before your free trial runs out!
